Social Worker Child Protection / Child Welfare Case Manager


Freeborn County Department of Human Services has two vacancies for a Social Worker in the Child Protection/Child Welfare Unit.  These positions works closely with clients, public, and community/county agencies.

These positions require demonstrated oral and written communication skills, including the ability to speak before audiences, in court and public settings, ability to organize work efficiently, flexibility, including the availability for emergency work outside the normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the capacity to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with personnel in this and other agencies.

Candidates must have at least a BA in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or Sociology and be MN Merit System certified.  Previous experience in case management and familiarity with the Social Services Information System is desirable.  Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in the human service field and are bilingual. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license.

DHS - Office Support Specialist


A full-time Office Support Specialist position is open at Freeborn County Department of Human Services, Albert Lea.

Job duties include office support for agency Social Workers and programs including transcription for client files, typing letters, forms, reports, etc., filing, updating web pages, and other miscellaneous duties. This position also provides reception backup.

Essential to the position are typing skills, computer skills, and good spelling/grammar. Must have the ability to follow written and oral instructions and be able to communicate well with others, attention to detail work, good telephone skills, and work well with people. Preference will be given for bilingual (Spanish) skills. Post high school education and/or prior office support experience necessary.
