Welcome to the Freeborn County Attorney's Office Web pages!

I have served as the Freeborn County Attorney for 18 years.

The office is composed of three other very experienced lawyers, two legal secretaries, and a victim/witness coordinator.  Each day we face a long list of new investigation reports, cases, and issues to tackle.  The variety of work and the people and concerns I encounter are significant reasons I enjoy this work.

As your County Attorney, my goal is always to protect and serve the citizens of this county by prosecuting crimes, assisting victims of crime, providing accurate legal advice and services to County Government, and making sure that children and vulnerable adults are safe and able to receive proper care.

The prosecution of drug and alcohol-related offenses, thefts, and assaults continue to be the types of cases most often prosecuted by this office.  Over the past 20 years, the number of cases prosecuted has dramatically increased, especially for crimes related to drug and alcohol use and domestic violence.  Currently, I am most directly involved in the cases involving Criminal Sexual Conduct prosecution, prosecution of assaults, and matters involving the Civil Commitment of persons with mental health issues or chemical dependency.

In the areas of the law that directly affect children, this office has been, and will continue to be, very involved in the Zero Alcohol Providers (ZAP) initiative instituted by Freeborn County Law Enforcement agencies, this office, and those working in corrections and chemical dependency treatment.  Child protection and the interface between the criminal law and the civil law and the work of the Freeborn County Department of Human Services and Freeborn County Law Enforcement will continue to be a focus of this office.

If you would like to help make a positive difference in Freeborn County, I ask you to help protect the safety of our community by reporting suspected crime to law enforcement.  Contact the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Department or the Albert Lea Police Department.
