Freeborn County Attorney records indicated that since January 2004, after the Minnesota Department of Corrections revised its policies and started notifying Minnesota County Attorney's that incarcerated Sexual Offenders who were soon to be released from state custody, posed a danger to society and should be further evaluated and considered for possible Civil Commitment as Sexually Dangerous Persons, the Freeborn County Attorney's Office has, with the assistance of the Minnesota Attorney General's Office, civilly committed nine men who were previously charged and convicted by this office of sexual offender offenses. One additional Civil Commitment Petition is currently pending.
