How To Start Recycling
Residents provide their own recycling container. The container must be 20-30 gallon size, have outside handles, a lid, and weigh less than 10 pounds when empty. Your old trash can works well. Decals should be placed around the top half of the container.
Combine the glass, plastic, tin, and aluminum together in the can. Tie magazines and newspapers with string or put in a paper sack. Junk mail should be put in a paper sack and the sack tied to keep from spilling.
Remember: if paper products get wet, they are ruined. If the weather looks bad save them for the next collection or place them inside the can with a tight lid. You may also take recycling to the Waste Management facility at 25237 755th Avenue (Co. Rd. 22) just north of Albert Lea on Bridge Avenue.
Recycling means you can save money by reducing your trash hauling needs. Recycling also helps protect the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It is not necessary to sign up. Simply put your recycling out on your recycling day in a labeled container by 7:00 am and it will be picked up. All residents can and should participate.
‘RECYCLING ONLY’ stickers can be obtained from the Environmental Services Office in the courthouse or from the recycling truck drivers.
If your pickup is on a holiday or during the week after a holiday, your pickup will be one day late.
Household Hazardous Waste Season runs from April through September each year.
