PRIVATE SIGNS ON FREEBORN COUNTY
RIGHT OF WAY
STANDARD PRACTICE & REMOVAL PROCEEDURE
- All
private signs within the right of way of a county road are subject to
removal by county highway personnel.
Normally removal will occur Monday thru Friday during regular work
hours (7:00 AM-3: 30 PM)
- Of
particular concern are signs placed near intersections in such a way as to
block safety sight lines.
- Signs placed within 30’ of the edge of
the traveled way will routinely be removed.
- Signs placed behind a sidewalk in an
urban area will be removed only if a resident complaint is received or if
they block a safety sight line.
- Signs
removed from the County
Right of Way will be
stored at the Freeborn County Highway Shop located at 3300 Bridge Avenue. Signs may be picked up and recovered, by
the owner, Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Private signs remaining at the County Shop for more than two weeks will
be disposed of without notification.
This includes Campaign signs, Builder signs, Garage Sale signs,
Open House and other Real Estate signs and any temporary signs placed
within the County
Right of Way
Normally the County Right
of Way (R/W) is at 50’ from the center of the
roadway. In some areas the R/W line can
be at a minimum of 33’ and a maximum of 100’ or more from the centerline. A good rule of thumb is; “the power lines,
telephone pedestals or blue and white rural address markers are generally just
inside the R/W line”.
