Absentee Voting


Absentee Voting by Mail

Absentee ballots are available 46 days prior to the City of Albert Lea Special Election beginning February 23, 2024.  A completed and signed 2024 Absentee Ballot Application must be received before a ballot can be issued to a voter.  Completed applications can be returned by mail, e-mail or fax.  


You may also request an application be sent to you by mail by contacting Freeborn County Elections at 507-377-5121 or   


Completed absentee ballots must be returned to the Elections Office no later than 8:00 pm on Election Day, April 9, 2024, in order to be counted.

Important Notice

To comply with USPS (post office) processing deadlines:

  • For applications received prior to 12:00 pm, ballots will be mailed the same day.
  • For applications received after 12:00 pm, ballots will be mailed the next business day.


Absentee Voting in Person

Voters may vote absentee ballot in person during the 46-day absentee period at the Freeborn County Auditor-Treasurer Office, 411 South Broadway, Albert Lea, MN 56007.


In person absentee voting hours are:

  • 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday-Friday February 23, 2024 to April 8, 2024
  • 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Saturday, April 6, 2024


Because the Auditor-Treasurer’s Office is a polling place location for absentee voting, we ask your cooperation in not campaigning within 100 feet of or in the Government Center Building according to MN Statutes 211B.11 subd. 1. Campaigning is to display campaign material, post signs, ask, solicit, or in any manner try to induce or persuade a voter.
