Patrol

The sheriff’s office has 18 full-time patrol deputies who are licensed Peace Officers in the state of Minnesota. 15 deputies are assigned to patrol, one is assigned to civil process, one is assigned to Court Security and one is assigned to the South Central Drug Investigation Unit.

Patrol deputies are responsible for responding to calls for service, conducting investigations, patrolling roadways, serving civil papers providing security to residents of the county and enforcing state laws. Along with these duties, deputies fill many other important roles as trainers to ensure all mandated training requirements are met. Deputies serve as field training deputies, firearms, use of force, Taser, close-quarter-battle, active shooter and other instructor roles and are responsible for training all licensed staff. One deputy is assigned to be the K-9 handler.

Patrol Deputies also have the responsibility of providing safe transports for local, state and federal inmates. Transports are conducted for a variety of purposes including: Medical appointments, court hearings, juvenile housing, civil commitments, prison and warrants. 

The Court Security Deputy along with Civilian Assistant Court Security Deputies are responsible for the safety, security and protection of judges, court staff, and the general public along with maintaining decorum in the courtroom. Deputies provide courtroom security and protection during all hearings, trials and whenever court is in session. As part of court security, deputies screen everyone coming to court for weapons and contraband.
